The main activities of this section are the preservation of the authentic environment, prevention of harmful activities, regulation of the attitude to and treatment of the natural rarities, identification of the rarities, the prevention of all actions that could affect the conditions for the natural development of natural rarities as well as regulation of the attitude towards the natural rarities with the aim of their continuing and rational use.

Some investigations of the flora and fauna were made during the construction of HMS-Strezevo and REK-Suvodol-Bitola. The collected plant findings, petrography findings and identification of around 1500 species of plants presents an important fund of the museum collection.

With the passing of the new Law for the protection of the environment in 1996, the work of this section ceased.
