PROTECTION WORK

The rapid urbanization, bringing about new urban plans for the town, as well as the investitional construction already underway of important buildings such as REK (Mine and Power Enterprise) and HMS (Hydro Melliorative System) has often led to the necessity of speedy interventions and activities for the registration, documenting, valorization and protection not only of the town's building heritage, but also the protection of rural entities, archaeological sites and all else which could be endangered.

Based on those actions, many studies and surveys were carried out, accompanied with the complete registration, valorization and protection regime, as well as studies for the protection of villages like Strezevo (now flooded), Sviniste (nowadays abandoned) as well as other villages like Paralovo, Dolno Oreovo, Suvodol, Biljanik, Vranevci, and Ribarci, endangered by the mining activities of REK Bitola. The most important, and at the same time the very first, study of this kind in Macedonia concerning the protection of the building heritage, was the sector study "Concerning the cultural historical heritage of the region of the Municipality of Bitola", promoted in 1976, which was one of the obligatory studies for the preparation of the DUP (Detailed Urban Plan) of the town.

The preparation of the draft project "A Project about the old Bitola bazaar as an urban complex of 27 streets and more than 600 buildings", made a great contribution to the preservation of the bazaar's authentic appearance to this day, which is considered to be an important element in the tourist offer not only of this own but also country wide.
